Free & Reduced Cost Lawyers

The Justice Center does not have attorneys on staff. We currently work with attorneys who practice in El Paso and Teller Counties of Colorado who volunteer their time and expertise to our of our clients.

Our Projects

The Find a Lawyer Program consists of two projects:

  • Pro Bono Publico (free) Project: for clients living in a household with an income that does not exceed 200% of the current Federal Poverty Line

  • Modest Means (reduced fee) Project: for clients living in a household with an income that is over twice but does not exceed 275% of the current Federal Poverty Line

Priority List
Due to the high demand for legal representation through our Find-a-Lawyer program, applicants who fall into the following groups will be prioritized for placement:

  • Survivors of Family Violence

  • Honorably Discharged Veterans and their dependents

  • Active Duty Members of the US Military and their dependents

  • Persons with disabilities

  • Senior Citizens

  • Immigrants and Refugees

  • Persons with landlord/tenant issues

Criteria for Consideration to take your case

  • The case must be in the El Paso or Teller Counties of Colorado (4th Judicial District)

  • You must not have a court date within the next six (6) weeks

  • Applicant must live in Colorado

  • The applicant must submit themselves to a financial verification

  • If there is a ruling or final decree on your case, only priority list applicants will be considered

Types of Cases we do not take

  • Cases against Governmental Agencies

  • Cases that involve Constitutional (civil) Rights

  • Employment

  • Medical Malpractice

  • Personal Injury

  • Bankruptcy

  • Any cases taken on contingency

Cases taken only for our Modest Means Project

  • Criminal

  • Contested Probate

Please note: At the moment, The Justice Center has a long waitlist for pro bono family law assistance. If you are seeking free representation for a family law matter and have court dates within the next six weeks, it is very unlikely that we will be able to find you an attorney.
